KSGF IS ALMOST HERE!
It has been a crazy process putting together the first annual Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics Festival, but the weekend is almost here! March 25th-27th is just around the corner!!!
Anticipation for the event is the closest feeling I've had to being an athlete since retiring. I'm nervous. I'm excited. I can't sleep. I'm getting focused and my brain is constantly pinging with little tasks that need to be accomplished. When I was a competitor, I always wanted to make sure that every detail I could control was taken care of - my motto was "control what you can control and have no regrets". I find myself doing the same thing with this event. Last minute details are consuming my mind.
It's an interesting feeling that you get when you are trying to do something different that the status quo. You always face a little bit of resistance and the fear of failing starts creeping into your mind. I want the Festival to be fun, energetic and engaging. I want it to meet my expectations and vision. I want people to leave and feel like they had the best gymnastic experience of their life…is that too much to ask?!
I know that this first year is going to have some kinks that need to be worked out. Some things will not go the way they've been planned. At the end of the day though, we have judges, we have gymnasts, we have volunteers, we have equipment, we have a venue…a gymnastics competition will definitely happen.
But I am obsessed with the details. Details are what set you apart. It's easy to be the same as everyone else…being different is much more consuming. But it is also so much more rewarding.
All I want is for the hard work to pay off.
In 2 weeks, all of this wondering will be gone. Until then, there are many details to take care of ;)
I hope to see you on Festival weekend!
Kyle
